Update on Hammer

Hammer is back to normal - the vet suggested I put the horses on psyllium for 2 strait months. I don;t have the cash for that, but I am going to try 1 month, then regularly 1 week per month after that (I tend to slack on it). But Hammer is okay, hopefully for good. I will take it easy on him for a while.

Ask your vet about using Metamucil or generic form; one of our vets who is a equine specialist had said it's the same thing but dosage is different and much cheaper! I wish I could remember the dosage but I don't, sorry. We used a number of times with our guys. I would double check with your vet before hand but all Metamucil is is psyllium.

Oh yeah, I've used Metamucil before, but the problem is that the Metamucil is a powder while the psyllium is in pellets. It makes it easier to feed. I used to put the Metamucil in a bran mash, but I don't have any bran right now :P But I DO have psyllium, and Nine eats that. Also, the psyllium doesn't require water. But I will definitely keep that in mind because it certainly is cheaper. It's just getting the stuff into the horse that is the problem :P
