Getting Back in Business

Yesterday and today I worked with Nine. I almost got on him both days, too. Yesterday I was really close, but decided he had come really far, and I didn't have time to start over if something went wrong when I was on him. So I unsaddled him and called it a day. He deserved it; he was standing still for me while I put my foot in the stirrup and all that stuff.

Today I just had too many people standing around making me nervous, and Miss Toddler started a tantrum which put me in the wrong mood for working with unbroke horses. SO I called it a day again and e-mailed the trainer I have been in contact with. My mom said she could "donate" $50 to the cause if the trainer will put two rides on Nine. We will see how that goes.

In other news, Hammar bows like a pro now, and I am working on getting him to stay down so I can eventually get on while he's down. A neat trick, but not really necessary. I can vault onto Hammar no problem. But now I know how to teach that to a horse and can start Nine on it some day! Ashley tossed my mother in law when Ash kicked at me and Hammar zooming by the other day, but everyone is okay. It was interesting to see a sign of life from the mare. I want to say "old girl", but she's only 9 this year. Hammar is the oldest horse at 12, and Nine is a 4 year old now. Speaking of Nine, his scars from jumping the fence are quickly vanishing and he's still perfectly sound.

Hey there! Glad Nine is healing from his fence mishap! I bet you had a sick knot watching it!

We watched a trainer this weekend at our local Equine Celebration, and he quoted another trainer. I won't get it completely right, but it will be close. When working with horses the quickest way to get things done, is to slow down. So taking your time with Nine is the thing that is going to get you two on the trails the quickest safely. :-)

We got our DVD's too, and I watched the Stars first. I had to laugh because on your way out of the pen from the In Hand I beleive it was, Nine had to take a pee break.
During my riding part, Tripp had to take a poop break. They are kindred spirits! We have not had time to watch the others yet.

I have decided to jump in and get involved with the T.I.P. program - we are picking up two mustangs next weekend and now I have to start promoting them to find adoptive homes. This is better than getting a regular part time job where THEY tell you when to be there and what to do. This way I can work part time on my schedule, and I get to work with horse! :-) Not to mention what the horses will teach me.

I am also going to a 6 day natural hoof care clinic so I can be more confident in my trimming. I get by, but I want to KNOW I am doing it right. I am pretty excited about that!

Hope you all are doing well and keep up the good work!

Tripp says to tell Nine hello back!

Hmmmm, I need to think about teaching one of ours to bow!

Hugs to you all!

Karen! Thanks for the encouragement, as always. I saw Tripp poop on the DVD; seems like there were quite a few like our horses. And I still have a sick knot thinking about what could have happened to Nine when he jumped that fence... I will check up on your blog soon. I've been without internet for a while and have to play catch up now :D
